Video Series, Part 1: Building a Home is a Very Unique Opportunity
Building a home is a very unique opportunity. For most people, it’s probably once in a lifetime. I’m Rosanna Bassford, and I started my interior design studio about five years ago.
As an interior designer your expertise is around the interior of the home, and that’s really where you live. Most recently, I am working on three new construction homes. One of the most exciting things about this project is that it is for my family. We will all be living on the same street together.
What I love about new construction interiors, is that the sky is pretty much the limit. I think a lot of people kind of focus on the house and the structure itself but forget that later down the road they have to furnish the entire house and you really want it to be cohesive with the style of the home.
Ideally, I am brought in at the very start of the project alongside the architect…that’s when we can make the biggest impact. There may be hundreds of decisions that have to be made, a lot of those decisions are design-based and will impact your finished interior. It’s always less expensive to make changes on paper than during the construction process. So, it’s important to have that advocate onsite for you to make some of those decisions.
