Project Reveal: Neutral Elegance in Pleasant Hill
This newly renovated living and dining room in Pleasant Hill was an open floor plan blank canvas. The client wanted a cohesive space with a modern take on traditional style in a neutral palette for her family. We created distinct but stylistically cohesive spaces, layering shades of gray with an elegant but casual touch. Texture, mixed metals and materials create a warm and inviting space in a monochromatic palette.
The Living Room
The pale blue-gray sofa, armchairs, and bench maximize the open layout while symmetry soothes the eye. Subtle pattern on the rug and throw pillows create comfort and exude depth with a variety of textures. Natural light from the windows is drawn across the space with mirrors and touches of reflective materials like marble, metal, and glass. It’s light and airy, but still layered and textural.
We brought in a beloved piano that the client thought would not belong and turned it into a focal point in the living room. The traditional rich wood is balanced by the cooler, monochromatic palette and modern lines.
The Dining Room
The adjacent dining area follows suit with a monochromatic palette and delicate balance of traditional and glam styling. A glimmering crystal and iron chandelier takes center stage as it defines the formal space. In contrast, a rustic wood dining table and tufted linen chairs keep things casual. The textured mid-century modern credenza celebrates both the feminine and masculine qualities of the space in a cohesive and functional manner. Elegant floral motifs and a pastel pink and blue palette are sprinkled amongst the grey tones in the form of bright wall art, simple ceramics, and traditional floral arrangements.
It was a pleasure creating cohesion and elegance in this open layout living and dining space for this Pleasant Hill family home!
